He has practiced in the casualty defense field in Cook, Kane, DuPage, and other counties in northern Illinois since graduation from law school. He has tried over 100 jury trials in all areas of negligence including auto, premises liability, products liability, Structural Work Act, insurer bad faith, and professional liability with emphasis in recent years in the area of medical malpractice and insurer bad faith litigation.Mr. Cunningham has been a lecturer for the DuPage and Kane County Bar Associations, and a lecturer and chapter author for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Education. He has also lectured to numerous medical groups and hospitals in Risk Management Seminars. Mr. Cunningham is a member of the Illinois Defense Counsel, the Society of Trial Lawyers, and the American, Illinois State, Kane County, and DuPage County Bar Associations. He is a contributing author to publications from the Illinois Institute on Continuing Legal Education dealing with medical malpractice and trial practice. He was a contributing author to the Physicians Litigation Handbook and updates for Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company. He has also spoken on the topic of Bad Faith Litigation before the Physicians Insurers Association of America in Seattle Washington in October of 2004. In 2003 he was a member of the committee to establish mandatory mediation in Cook County and served on the Cook County Committee to select mediators to handle Cook County's mediated cases. He has served as a mediator on numerous occasions and is a on the mediation panel in DuPage and Kane Counties and on the Rush Mediation Panel for Medical Negligence cases. In October 2000, Mr. Cunningham was inducted into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and in October 2001, accepted membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is a member of the Committee on Trial Practice of the American Bar Association, and is a member of the Society of Trial Lawyers. In March 2003, he was chosen as one of eight attorneys nation wide to serve on the CNA Healthpro National Birth Trauma Litigation Counsel. In May 2004 he was named to the ISMIE Mutual / ISMS Legislative Working Group. Awards and HonorsMr. Cunningham has also been appointed as a member to select group known as the "Leading Lawyers Network." The association is comprised of only those attorneys who have received confirmation via a statewide vote of their peers, of the most distinguished practicing lawyers. As a result of this designation, Mr. Cunningham was featured in the January/February 2004 issue of West Suburban Living Magazine in an article entitled "Raising the Bar".As a distinguished DePaul College of Law alumnus, Mr. Cunningham's accomplishments were profiled in an article titled, "Civil Excellence: DePaul Personal Injury Litigators," appearing in the Winter 2000 issue of Dialogue, the magazine of DePaul College of Law. Mr. Cunningham is also on the Executive Committee of the Delnor Community Health Care Foundation and was recently named to the Advisory Council for the School of Management at Saint Xavier University. |
