Immediately after law school, he practiced criminal law as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County. Mr. Slovis argued numerous times before the Illinois Appellate Court and tried over 30 felony cases for crimes which included murder. During his tenure at the Office of the Cook County State’s Attorney, Mr. Slovis also taught and managed other attorneys. In 1995, Mr. Slovis joined Bollinger, Ruberry and Garvey and was named partner in 2000. In 2002, Mr. Slovis became a shareholder in Cunningham, Meyer and Vedrine and was responsible, along with Dave Burtker, in establishing the Chicago office. Since 1995, he has concentrated his practice in litigation with specific focus on the areas of medical and health professional malpractice, nursing home negligence, premises liability, product liability and construction negligence liability actions. Mr. Slovis has also represented physicians and nurses in disciplinary matters before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. He is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar. Mr. Slovis has successfully tried many civil cases to verdict. He has also authored and published three articles, which discussed a defendant-physician’s role in medical malpractice litigation and the litigation challenges of the electronic medical record. In addition, Mr. Slovis has lectured before legal and medical organizations on the topics of trial practice, risk prevention, medical malpractice law and electronic medical records. In 2004 Mr. Slovis was named to the Law Bulletin Publishing Companies 2004 40 Attorneys Under Forty to Watch and has been identified since 2005 as an Illinois Super Lawyer. Mr. Slovis is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Society of Trial Lawyers, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, Illinois Association of Defense Counsel, American Health Information Management Association, Chicago Healthcare Risk Management Society and Illinois Health Information Management Association. |
