Redden and Gustin Win Not Guilty Verdict for Podiatrist

01/18/2020

Charles Redden and K. Courtney Gustin, won a not guilty jury verdict in a podiatric malpractice lawsuit pending in Cook County. The lawsuit was filed against a podiatrist who removed a cyst and bone spur.  The plaintiff developed Charcot foot syndrome, a condition causing weakening of the bones in the foot enough to fracture and change the foot’s shape. The plaintiff alleged that the podiatrist’s surgery to remove a cyst and bone spur was contraindicated because evidence of Charcot syndrome was present prior to the surgery. In addition, the plaintiff alleged that the podiatrist was professionally negligent in his failure to diagnose and treat the plaintiff’s Charcot syndrome, which led to the plaintiff’s injuries, including several foot reconstruction surgeries and imminent amputation.
